December 28, 2012

Hey guys, it’s December 28th. It’s almost the end of the year (and it’s my mom’s birthday- she’s 64!) and most people probably don’t have solid New Years Eve plans. One thing I can say for sure is that planning is the BEST thing you can do. There’s nothing worse than scrambling last minute to find something good to do, only to find everything is packed, expensive, and all bridges to South Beach are bumper to bumper traffic. You don’t wanna watch fireworks and count down to 2013 in your car. And we don’t want you to either.

Maybe you’re going to keep it low key this year. Maybe you want to dress to the nines and see and be seen. Either way, here is a little suggestion:

DEL_NYE13

Why not celebrate NYE with Talib Kweli at FDR inside The Delano and Santigold at the Delano’s pool??

With DJ’s Ideal and Iron lyon, the music is definitely going to be on point. YES, this is on the beach, so go a little early (traffic) and take a cab (parking) and dress up nice! The intimate FDR setting will make sure you and your friends feel cozy and special and the pool will remind you that you’re starting your new year  off in Paradise (as opposed to cold and snow.) Get ready to pop some champagne and probably run into a celebrity or two  !

Down to spend $100-500 on sending off the year right? Then CLICK HERE for ticketing info!

Yes, the Holidays are among us again. Halloween has passed meaning the winter months are among us. Even though I’m from Maryland, I feel like a true Miami-an in many ways, one of them being my undying love of all night/day parties. As I stated in my previous Nasty Gal post, the best part of the holidays, to me, are the glitzy and glamorous parties that come with the territory.

And YES, you read correctly, this is a lineup of my favorite pieces from Victoria’s Secret. The long time lingerie retailer actually has some really nice clothes! A week ago if someone said “Vicky’s Secret Clothing” I’d instantly think of Real Housewives of wherever reaching to be young and sexy (think  Amy Poehler as the rich mom in “Mean Girls”)  and teens in “Pink” branded apparel. However, I recently got invited on a trip to the VS headquarters in Ohio and lo and behold, there are some really nice dresses, sweaters and even workout gear !

Check out my top picks for dressing up (and not looking like a Boca Raton age-defying house wife) for the holiday party circuit below:

The Open Back Lace Dress

Very sexy in the back, formal and classy in the front.

Get it HERE for $98

The Embellished Cami Dress

It’s sparkly, simple and perfect for the warm Miami winter

Get it HERE for $148

The Sheer Sleeve Dress

Um, a sheer long sleeved bat wing LBD? Yea, count me in.

Get it on SALE HERE for $88

The Ponte and Leather Legging

The leather pants for a warmer climate!

Get them HERE for $298

Cap-Toe Pump

The classic silhouette looks chic with an ankle strap and mesh. I just might have to give in and buy the black ones.

The holidays are coming up and nothing gets me in the spirit like free stuff the cold winter weather.  I am currently in Columbus, Ohio for a couple days and it is nothing like Miami, FL, weather wise. The outlook right now is a bit dreary and gloomy, highs in the upper 30′s, rainy and windy. No complaints though I’m typing this from the brand spanking new Hilton Columbus Downtown Hotel. This place is beautiful. More on my mini trip later.

So, what’s this all about? Christmas. Hanukah. Kwanzaa. Any other gathering of families  that produces the giving and getting gifts.  I personally pride myself on my gift giving skills and LOVE the holidays for it. Another thing I love is the abundance of Holiday parties. AND, what better place to celebrate than Miami? Sure the northern states have their wintery white backdrops but Miami has well, warm weather all damn year round. That means party dresses can be strappy and soirees can be held at pools and backyards.

I plan to dazzle it up a bit this year. Check out some of my early favorites for festive dressing from Nasty Gal.

The Golden Hour Sequin Dress

This dress reminds me of a dainty ballerina costume. That reminds me of The Nutcracker ballet, Christmas parties and fantasy. See? The perfect holiday dress.

Get it HERE for $58

The Ruffled Cage Dress

Spending your holidays on a Caribbean island? Or just wishing you were? This flowy and flirty dress is your best bet for the relaxed yet chic island vibe.

Get it HERE for $58

The Goldmine Sequin Dress

Want to feel Kardashian-eque and glamourous? This golden body con dress will get attention like Kim K’s booty.

Get it HERE for $78

The Jeweled Platform Lita

A classic reworked. I mean, this shoe is like wearing shimmery sparkly ice, what could be more in the Holiday spirit? I want these for Christmas.

Get them HERE for a cool $210

The Victoria Knit Dress

Make sure you watch the throne in this elaborate baroque inspired shift.

Get it HERE for $278

The Moschino Liquid Gold Jacket

Feeling a little cool even in Miami? If you’re a lover of vintage (and you’re fast enough) get you hands on this vintage Moschino find from the early 90′s.

Get is HERE for $598

Ahh,  FDR Mondays is ALWAYS a good time- beautiful people, great music and this Monday, July 30th is no acception. The only bad bittersweet news is that it’s also the going away party for the ultimate party girl herself- Julz Goddard- who will be embarking on an amazing journey starting in France and ending up who know’s where. She is a great person, super fun and glamorous, so what better way to see her off than at The Delano’s swanky FDR night club?? Join us as we say au revoir ! to our beloved Julz.

Never been to FDR?? Come see what the buzz is all about! With music by Mr. Mauricio and Aliyo.

Memorial Day Weekend Festivities in Miami

Okay tourists, locals, and natives alike. Let’s keep it real, this Memorial Day weekend is not the time to wild out. At least not anywhere in the radius of Miami Beach or Downtown. There are DUI checks galore and THE MAN will be out looking for the first person to slip. Don’t become another statistic. But if you must go there are a few things you should know about what you’re getting yourself into:

1.This weekend has been dubbed “Urban Beach Week” because of the large amount of, uh , urban people who flock to the City of Sin for Memorial Day weekend. Be that as it may, there will be lots of loud music, half, 3/4 or even almost completely naked and drunk/high BOOTY all over the place, along with rented cars and obnoxious people (not just urban people either). I mean, this type of debauchery is sort of what happens in South Beach all year round but this weekend its times a billion. Not for nothing people got shot last year. It’s really a crazy police officer’s dream out there. Fighting will most likely break out although we’d like to hope for the absolute best.

2.OK, what about the delicious food offered up and down the strip? If you’re on Ocean Drive, do not, I repeat DO NOT get lured in by the Slovakian waitress offering “2-4-1 Drinks.” You will walk (or stumble) out of that seaside eatery with a lot less money in da bank. Shrimp and impressing some girl you just met isn’t worth the price tag ! Not to mention the owners jack the prices up specifically for this weekend. You have been warned ! The only safe bets on Ocean Drive are Johnny Rocket’s and Friday’s. But you can get that anywhere. Go to a little Cuban hole in the wall or a taco spot for something cheap and yummy.

3.If you are driving and trying to get anywhere by a certain time, give yourself at least 30 extra minutes for traffic and the colossal bitch that is finding parking. Carpool with whoever you can. Take the 36 st bridge off of Biscayne or even the 79th st bridge instead of the McArthur Causeway. Fuck a taxi. Again, you have been warned.

4.If you venture into the wild, be prepared for a shocking amount of groping, yells, whistling, suggestions for sexual favors, propositions to hang out, and to hear the worst pickup lines out of desperate-ness you have ever heard. Ever been to the mall and had tons of guys try to court you? This is literally happen every 5 steps. I AM NOT LYING. Then you walk by them again and the men are using the same line on another beach goer. There attempts get comical after realizing they are on vacation and purely just want to take advantage of their situations. I just do the ol’ ignoring tactic if I find myself there but usually leave feeling as if I’ve been eye-raped and extremely uncomfortable.

5. For us locals, we know better. But in case you forgot, do I have to remind you that THE COPS ARE HEAVY OUT THERE? Don’t have your plates up to date? Drank one beer and headed home? Forgot to pay that ticket a few months back? All it takes is a swerve or a bad turn and the pigs will find a reason to stop you. Your basically asking for a ticket to venue out to South Beach. They are literally at every intersection. They are waiting. They want to write you up. Don’t give them a reason, leave it to the tourists to catch a case, normal Miami cops year around are bad enough.

Here’s last year’s “recap” of the fatal and ridiculous shooting and just the ratchetness that went down:

The only thing that keeps playing in my head is a line from the last Pimp C off of 36 Mafia’s “Sippin On Some Syrup” :

Cut that monkey shit out, you embarrassing us. Long Sigh.
