Here is an album to check out that isn’t on some trendy shit. It’s not swagged out and on the current trend- it’s a true story telling experience coming from Iron Lyon, or Jeff Lyons, resident AE Collective DJ and dope dude. Check out his info and a bit about the album below, along with his new video for “Step Into The Night” and DOWNLOAD HIS FREE ALBUM!

When asked to describe his latest album, Iron Lyon simply states: “it’s one smooth ride with no filler, a true album from beginning to end inspired by my life experience.”  That’s precisely what the sophomore LP, “From the Ground Up” is.  The seasoned emcee/DJ presents a work that cohesively sets a vibe of 90s nostalgia that is still relevant and much needed in today’s landscape.  Set to drop September 6, 2012–as a follow-up to the “Time Capsule” LP & “The Foundation” EP–it is with much anticipation that the album brings listeners 16 tracks of audible substance.  He not only raps on the project, but also showcases his turntablist skills by scratching over various tracks. This album’s unique musical formula additionally spawned from producers, Chad Dubz and Mr. Koichi, also features Sean Price, Edo G, Slim Kid Tre of The Pharcyde, and others

The first single, “Step Into The Night” has been sneak-previewed on Peter Rosenberg’s show on world-renowned Hot97 and Statik Selektah’s show on Shade45.  In just a few weeks, the track and video are officially dropping, and the full LP being released early September with a firm stamp of approval from the classic indie hip-hop outfit that is Fatbeats.  Shortly thereafter, the next video and single off the project, “Summer in the City” will follow.  Undoubtedly, “From the Group Up” will be stirring quite a buzz in the viral circuit and giving hip-hop and music enthusiasts everywhere an album that can accompany them for years to come.

Natassia Gail Zolot better known as Kreayshawn is a rapper/director from San Francisco, California – to be more accurate East Oakland. Gaining huge internet attention and popularity after her video for “Gucci Gucci“, her White Girl Mobb and her unique appearance caught the attention of the world and Columbia Records. Now Krey has worked with artists like Theophilus London, Juicy J, and now 2 Chainz.

Tauheed Epps known as 2 Chainz, formerly known as Tity Boi is an Atlanta, Georgia rapper hailing from College Park. Previously signed to Ludacris’s Disturbing Tha Peace record label, this ATL rapper changed his name due to speculation about what Tity Boy actually meant. Now as 2 Chainz, his success is almost overnight as he’s already worked with artists such as Kanye West, Drake, Pusha T, and the list is endless as 2 Chainz seems to be the ideal choice for a feature these days.

The thought of Kreayshawn and 2 Chainz in the studio together for one track is daunting enough but two? This is interesting. Kreayshawn’s annoying but cute voice dominates the tracks over 2 Chainz Southern draw and violent lyrics. “Murder, Murder, this right here is Murder”, 2 Chainz repeats and repeats on the track “Murder” which is a single off his upcoming mixtape T.R.U. REALigion. Gotta love how he keeps it street and the rap world cannot seem to get enough of Mr. 2 Chainz with nearly every other song featuring his rhymes. I don’t honestly don’t like this raps, “I’m smoking on exotic my girl ain’t got no stomach
Every time we have sex she always ask me for a hundred” – not genius work if you ask me but it makes the  clubs and the hood bounce so that’s all it takes. Kreayshawn on the other hand I can give some props. Her rhymes are funny and enjoyable. I relate ! “Gucci Gucci”, is literally the “im-the-different-kind-of-girl-who-shops-at-thirft-stores-and-wears-cool-kicks” anthem and will never fail to get me to start rappin’ and hatin’ on basic bitches, “One big room, full of bad bitches”. Either way, you can love or hate Kreayshawn but she’s winning, and with the new track “Breakfast” feat. 2 Chainz she gives us a glimpse into her upcoming album “Somethin’ ‘Bout Kreay“. Will Rick Ross be featured? I doubt it, but she still got the street cred from none other than her partner in crime, or should I say Murder, 2 Chainz.

Watch and download both of their new tracks

“Pancakes” and “Murder” below!

Our good friend Gianni Lee has been making waves in the fashion world for a while now with his dope brand- Babylon Cartel- which is definitely worth checking out. But he is no simple man. Aside from fashion he does graphic design, throws crazy parties (with Maddecent no less) and is a pretty great DJ. He’s been putting together mixes- not just songs he likes- he’s been curating a sound- Trill wave.

Trill Wave is a mash-up musical style that encompasses gangsta rap, chopped and screwed, dub step, Philly dance,  EDM and everything in between. His mixes include the likes of A$AP Rocky and Space Ghost Purrp and features new-comers like Ryshon Jones, Flatbush Zombies and Paris Artelli.

The Trill Wave mixtape was a collaborative effort between Gianni and Panda Reemy of ANMLHSE, another dope ass clothing brand out of Philly. Check them out as well. With these two musical dudes’ minds at work they selected the trillest music, then compiled it, created the cover art and brought you something no one else has!

Listen to his Trill Wave and Trill Wave DEUX mini mixes below and download the mixtape if you love it like we do.

Follow Gianni  @GianniLee and Reemy @GRLSLOVETHECRLS  on Twitter so you know when the next mixtapes and parties drop. Hopefully there will be a party in Miami soon !

Asher Roth recently dropped his newest mixtape Pabst & Jazz on his Tumblr which, just like Seared Foie Gras with Quince and Cranberry, is free for his fans to enjoy.  So after listening to this album for about 10 days I’m ready to tell yall how I feel. The first thing that stood out to me was the fact that there actually is Jazz music in this tape. Like, after a couple verses you find yourself just grooving to some smooth instrumentals and I’m not mad at that at all. Of course, the content is part funny, part political as is a lot of Asher’s stuff. There are cameos from Pac Div, Blu, A$AP Twelvy, Casey Veggies, Chip The Ripper, Phil Ade along with a few others. All in all, this is a great mixtape. My favorite songs right now are “Dope Shit” (it’s just so chill and smooth) and “More Cowbell” (because the intro is hilarious and the beat rocks.) Check  the mixtape out!

I miss these types of mixtapes. Remember the kind that actually had a mixture of songs from different artists which were the hottest songs at that moment in time. Yeah, those. This mixtape which was released for this years Art Basel is dope with songs like J.Cole‘s Mr. Nice Watch and the Niggas In Paris Remix with T.I. – so get back to feeling like its middle school summer and download this mixtape from Air Force King himself DJ Clark Kent – and of course presented by the always reppin it, MI GENTE CLOTHING and COOL Js.

We get a lot of music submissions. Rarely do I get the chance to sort though the E-Mails of the vast up and comers and hustlers of this music industry to hear what people are creating and sending me to post up on 2DB.com.

When I heard Yungun‘s intro track off the bat, I made sure to keep the tab open on my internet browser window – and that’s where its been for the past week. I don’t know if its his British accent, or the soulful melody’s, but his mixtape “Jack The World” is definitely worth listening too. I’m serious.

The DJ on this tape, DJ Mr Thing, did a great job mixing the tracks like a real DJ should (you know with scratches and all that good stuff) along with the various producers and most importantly the artist himself, Yungun aka Essa. He shows me a whole new side to UK Hip Hop which I have to admit I looked down upon. The tape mixes hip-hop, disco, soul, afro-beat, jazz, and electronica all into one with intellectual raps and how CAN YOU NOT LOVE THE ACCENT!? He’s better articulated then Waka Flocka and is more soulful than Big Sean so def check out the album and download the mixtape , partna’.

Here’s a track off of Austin rapper Kydd‘s newest project, Sounds in My Head Part 2, coming out soon. This song,”Hall Pass” is a banger and features 2DB favorite Yelawolf. Check out Kydd’s website for more info about him and his music.

I first peeped this on HYPETRAK:

Turns out Kydd is pretty dope! I think the mix of his Austin-bred rhymes and Yela’s Alabama country-ness is a winner. Here are some of his other songs for your listening pleasure:
