This Thursday, November 21st , The BOOM BAP is back at Blackbird Ordinary! The Nashville party that made it’s way to Miami last month will again open it’s doors to bring you the best Hip Hop and Turntable skills around. This Wednesday, November 13th, new champagne company Michelle, revamped by Domaine Ste. Michelle, will be unveiling it’s newest collection at one of Miami’s chicest salons- Blo in Midtown Miami, before heading to Chicago and LA for their promotional tour of the new bubbly. The blow dry bar, a fixture for the girl on the go, only does blow outs and some dry styles (no color, so hassle, no long wait). We will be attending this tasting party and we think you should too! From 6-9 pm there will be music, prizes, a raffle benefiting Locks of Love, FREE hair styles (!) and of course, the drinks will be flowing.
Who in Miami doesn’t love a free drink or two? We were lucky enough to get to sample the Sparkling Wine beforehand, and it’s good. I’m not a huge fan of champagne and sparkling wine, but the Brut was crisp and the Rosé is really smooth. I like them both, and I’m pretty overdue for a trip to Blo, so this is two birds with one stone!
It’s finally starting to feel a little bit like Fall in Miami! Even though it’s still hot and sunny most of the time, the days have officially been shortened and the leaves are even changing- just not on the palm trees. I can’t stress enough how much I love warm weather and DO NOT like the cold (reason for moving to Miami from Maryland) but I do like Fall and the warmer colors (and Thanksgiving food).
Always a lover of black I decided to stick to the basics that lean a little on the masculine side and add just a pop of color for my workday outfit. I chose a basic T-shirt from a cool company based in NYC, added some oxfords and tied a men’s (size small) button up around my waist. I kept it a little feminine with sleek leggings, bright red lips , a clutch and a good amount of jewelry.
I really am in love with my new oxfords. They are a little clompy and manly, and very “on trend” for this Grunge revival that has been happening for a while, but they are also streamlined and the silver adds interest. My Cecilia Gonzales bracelet is a new addition to my jewelry box- which is note worthy since I almost never buy jewelry anymore (since I make my own). The simple “A” piece was made specifically for me- it’s great to have talented local designers who make custom pieces! She’s in Coconut Grove, so definitely pay her a visit. Another favorite is the My Other Bag pochette. Made of eco-friendly canvas the line of not-quite-designer-knockoff-more-of-an-homage bags are functional and unique (and very nice to my wallet). Check them out if you aren’t familiar!
See detailed images below. Just don’t mind my awkwardly red colored bangs.

This past Friday, 10/25 UK singer Jessie Ware graced the stage at Revolution Live in Ft. Lauderdale, and 2DB was there to capture it all! It was an early show; doors opened at 7 with Mikky Ekko warming up the crowd of devoted fans. The stage set-up was simple- signature rose branded black and white background, 3 piece band, and a single mic stand where Jessie belted out hits like “Running” and “Sweet Talk” with only a beat pad as her backup singer. But, considering Jessie’s powerful voice, theatrics were not at all needed.
Jessie was funny and talkative, letting us all know she’d be going to Disney World the next day, and how how last shows have been going. No complaints though, she had everyone chuckling when they weren’t singing along to her songs and snapping Instagram videos. Known for her sleek hair-do’s, Jessie came out in an understated outfit- Houndstooth top, black slacks, modest heels and a floor length black jacket. A fan told her her “Chonga” earrings were great, which they were, but hearing her call them “Changa” in her English accent was even better. No one outside of Miami gets that word right at first.
She actually asked me who I was, between songs, while I was the sole photographer in the pit at that time. When she learned my name is Aja, named after the Steely Dan album, she half jokingly told her guitarist we should meet. That was one of the highlights for me for sure. Her band, complete with a guitarist, drummer and bassist, where great as well, bringing her music to life in a way that can easily get lost in live performances. There’s something about hearing your favorite song in headphone that can get lost live- but this performance brought out the details everyone came for.
About halfway into the set, Jessie took her shoes off (the heels were getting caught in the wooden floor) and serenaded us, Hippie style. Gotta love when people aren’t afraid to get a little dirty! Her performance was soulful and powerful, really showing off her amazing vocal range. She even brought her multi-talented drummer to the mic to sing “Valentine” which actually features Sampha. And just further proving how down to earth the singer is, she stayed after and literally took a photo with everyone who waited patiently in line. Overall the performance was truly worth the drive from downtown Miami, and I can’t wait until the next visit to South Florida. Considering how much I love her music, I was surprised it wasn’t a super packed house, but we all know how some people don’t like something until it’s already “cool.”
Looking for Halloween plans? I am too and I have a couple of events in mind that aren’t too much of a fuss but are a guaranteed good time and this is one of my suggestions for someone looking for a great party and performance without the trouble of typical Miami ‘nightclubs’ and event spaces.
Red Rabbit Presents is pleased to announce a very special one night Halloween event on Thursday, October 31st at one of Miami’s top nightlife venues, Grand Central.
This year they bring us none other than one of the biggest names in the EDM world, Boys Noize. Alex Ridha (aka Boys Noize) was first known for his influential work as a producer and remixer for Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Santigold, Scissor Sisters and Feist. Voted by Rolling Stone as one of the top 10 “DJs Who Rule The Earth,” in 2012, Boys Noize has since toured the world and released three full-length albums.
Halloween night in Miami is one of the biggest night of the year, so we wanted to do something special and out of the ordinary without having anyone break the bank. I’ve always just tried to secure a good event with Halloween since it’s kind of out of hand down here. Everyone either goes to Lincoln Road or Coconut Grove – so let’s do something different and enjoy the sounds of BOYS NOIZE on hallooseven. By the way, hear one of my favorite BOYS NOIZE remixes below – you know I love anything N.E.R.D. related, haha.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This month is about more than just cool costumes on the 31st, it’s also about raising awareness, funding and hope for beating Breast Cancer. More importantly, we shouldnt stop caring about this issue that kills over women per year once November comes around. The ultra-luxe haircare company Agadir has rallied their team to support the cause and hope to keep this disease in the forefront, helping to raise awareness all year long! And if the way they do it is by keeping your hair shiny, we say why not?!
During the month of October, Agadir Argan Oil’s famous Hair Treatment will be offered with a special pink pump in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Proceeds from every sale of the 4oz Argan Oil Hair Treatment bottle, will be donated to Agadir’s charity of choice, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
To help spread the word, we wanted to give a bottle away to one lucky reader! The rules to enter are SO easy, and the prize it definitely worth it. I’ve been using this product for about a week now and I have to say, it makes my hair so soft! The best thing about it is that it works on all hair types because it’s not super greasy or heavy. So what are you waiting for? Enter to win!
And that’s it! One lucky winner will be announced via Twitter November 8th.
Every time you use the pump, remember that you are helping to find a cure for Breast Cancer!
In a week from today, 10/25, UK’s rising star Jessie Ware will be performing at Revolution Live in Ft. Lauderdale. I happen to be a huge Jessie Ware fan so I will definitely be in attendance! Her voice is beautiful and deep and her style teeters the line of Blue Eyed Soul without being gimmicky. She works with the likes of Disclosure and SBTRKT without letting the amazing talents of others overpower her strong voice. I’ve been listening to her music for a while now and I have to say I’m excited to see her perform live.
The singer is currently on tour in the states, hitting venues from East to West coast. Check out her Facebook page for more info on upcoming dates and cities. Luckily for us, she’ll be at Revolution Live, just a short drive from Miami. And what’s more is that she’ll be joined by Louisiana singer-songwriter Mikky Ekko. Doors open at 7pm, so don’t be late to this one!Revolution Live 100 SW 3rd Ave Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33312

About The BOOM BAP:
What started as a monthly party in Nashville that basically was a haven for friends to spin their favorite Hip Hop turned into an internationally recognized event amongst DJ’s and attendees. With DJ’s spinning Round Robbin style on 4 turntables, they play off of each other and the vibe, creating a very unique and personable energy, capped off by a special guest DJ.
