If you’re like me, you just might be a semi-professional procrastinator. A lover of art but a generally lazy person, I often see thumbnail images of Youtube videos that I really want to watch, but I always seem to glaze over them and end up just re-watching 30 Rock. Luckily, I was shown the video above and I’m really glad I watched it. I suggest you take the next 7.5 minutes to watch the extremely cool short film.
Taking street art to another level, artist BLU (the pseudonym of the Italian artist who has remained anonymous in his work since 1999) takes the viewer on an exciting ride drawing monster-like-creation after another, walking, crawling and shifting over lots of already existing graffiti (This was filmed in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2008.) I feel a little bad for the white-wall aftermath of it all, but the end result is pretty worth the effort. Actually, the more I watch it, the more I wish I could see the aftermath in person. Just imagining how many times each monster was drawn, and seeing the scale of how big to small to huge these guys get, it’s pretty amazing.
Looking for hopeful candidates (especially in Miami) can be hard enough on its own. I received some pretty interesting information in my inbox the other day that made me question, WHERE ARE ALL THE GOOD GUYS? Because apparently they don’t live in Florida. I hear all of my girl friends talk about the lack of choices in the dating scene and I don’t blame them! With a constant temptation of nightlife, women on the prowl, drugs, alcohol opportunities, on top of the ever lingering question of faithfulness in relationships – Miami has a range of worries for a single ‘gal.
In a recent survey, DirtSearch.org, a free and anonymous background check site that searches public, criminal, arrest, civil, speeding tickets and more has just released the Top 10 Worst States to Find a Decent Guy and the state that tops the list is California. In these states, women were more likely to find guys that well, just didn’t check out clean when it came to background checks. In reviewing over 1.5 million search records, what came back once were crimes such as petty theft, identity theft, fraud, back child support payments, writing bad checks, and multiple bankruptcies and then harder criminal charges.
Here are the Top 10 States to Find a Decent Guy:
5. New York
10. North Carolina
If you are a woman in Wisconsin, Seattle or Portland seems you are more likely to find that guy that you can take home to your parents and make them proud. “California dreamin may be for the men but it certainly is not for the ladies,” said Erik Knight, founder DirtSearch.org. “It may be that men are just concerned a little too much with looks and really aren’t looking for substance. It is interesting that the top three are mainly coastal.”
Yeah coastal, THAT MEANS US. AND OH YEAH GUESS WHAT FLORIDA IS NUMBER TWO. Why!?
Makes total sense. I’ve never used Google or any websites to super spy on guys (or at least I wouldn’t tell you guys, right!) but it does seem smart if you’re going to get serious and move in with someone to do some research as well. I’d probably do it with any new homemade, if I had to be honest seems like a really good idea. Anyways, don’t say I never looked out for you! Californians and fellow Floridians we are DOOMED!
Here’s some tips on figuring out if dudes are worthy of your attention:
Oh, the ever dreading day job struggle. I think we’ve all been there – working our first pre-adolescence jobs wishing we’d be able to get called off or told they could go home early. Whether is as retail or service industry, the belittling demands, the annoying tasks, and the unappreciated efforts of the businesses can really get to you. My first jobs included Johnny Rockets, Champs Sports, and Journeys. Long nights of folding shirts and putting back shoes where spent among other kids who just wanted to get the hell out of there.
This song by Kanye West is something that I think touches all of us in some way. Especially during this time when the album “Late Registration” came out, I feel like our generation was going through a point of adolescence where we just wanted to make money easy and have fun! Buy shoes, go to the movies, and our to party – we had fun and we did it with friends. I’ve played this song many times in repeat, singing along just FEELING IT – you know? We miss you Kanye and we love you – you are truly a voice of our generation at times!
This video too – as odd as it is – is really cool. I’m the type of person who makes mini-music videos in my head all the time as the songs play in my head. To see GLC and Consequence in the flesh giving us a visual on the music makes it all the more intense for me as a listener and fan of the music. Alongside the fact that this video, released 5 years after it was made, was kept hidden and scrapped during the end of the “Late Registration” days. A hidden gem until now – I appreciate the fact it came to late, it makes us appreciate that period of time event more.
For those of you who know me, you know I LOVE food- trying new dishes, cooking for hours to make a great dish for friends, etc. But one thing I especially love is getting served amazing food (who doesn’t right?) So, I was certainly happy to test out the newest Miami location of famed BBQ joint, Brother Jimmy’s. The new spot is located inside Sunset Place, address and info below. However, I don’t eat any meat other than seafood. Since this is a BBQ restaurant, I took my boyfriend Jose along to sample the ribs. He has good taste, so he was the ideal candidate.
First we tried the popcorn shrimp. With this special, slightly spicy sauce, they were delicious. No complaints here. We only had a bit, though, to save room for the nachos. That’s right, nachos from a BBQ spot. The waitress warned us that they were huge, but it’s hard to even convey how big they were. We’re talking a huge pile of tortillas with melted cheese, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream, and bbq brisket. But the best part was that, instead of black or refried beans, these nachos had sweet BBQ beans. It was an unexpected twist and definitely worth the change. I only ate a little bit, since one of the owners was kind enough to let me know that the beans are cooked with pork. (He noticed we had the brisket on the side, and came over to ask if we were vegetarians. How’s that for customer service?)
Next up, Entreés. Jose had the full rack of ribs with cornbread and mac n cheese, while I ordered the tuna steak burger with a side of collard greens. Now, I have to say the collard greens didn’t quite stack up to my parents’, but hey, I grew up with two amazing cooks so I’m a bit biased. Everything else was great and seasoned just enough that we didn’t really need to reach for salt or pepper. Last thing on the list: dessert. We decided to just share one since by now we were so full and ready for a nap. We ate a huge fudge brownie smothered in vanilla ice cream and whipped cream- nothing too adventurous here, but certainly delicious. I definitely will come back again. The ambiance and staff were so relaxed and friendly. Check out the images below for all the juicy details!
PS- The Peach Mojito is 100% worth trying.

Who doesn’t love the Simpsons? The classic TV family brings up memories of youth and rebellion with the wacky not so typical American-family. Lord knows I’ve watched about every episode pre-2007 (when I finished high-school!) but The Simpsons still keeps their charm even 25-years later. The longest-running scripted show in television history, The Simpsons exploded into a cultural phenomenon in 1990 and has remained one of the most groundbreaking and innovative entertainment franchises, recognizable throughout the world.
That’s why the marriage between The Simpsons and street-wear was a natural collaboration as The Simpsons has had their fair rounds with brands like Jeremy Scott, Shepard Fairey, Joyrich, A Bathing Ape, H&M, Topshop and Zara - even Jeremy Scott. This year The Simpson brand plans to collaborate with brands Drop Dead, Eleven Paris and Uniqlo.
Joining the ranks of the nostalgic collaborations, Johnny Cupcakes, the quirky fun apparel — largely focused on graphic tees that poke fun at pop culture with a culinary twist — still creates a buzz through word of mouth and general curiosity and this new project only adds to the brands art/cartoon direction.
The classic street wear apparel company promises to bring us three specially packaged, oversized “cupcake mix” boxes, each based on a fan-favorite character from The Simpsons. Each box contains three collectible products designed exclusively around the theme of the featured characters: Homer Simpson, Bart Simpson, and Krusty The Clown. These items will not be sold separately and are exclusive to the packages.
Find out more on www.johnnycupcakes.com. The Simpsons and Johnny Cupcakes collaboration apparel can be purchased in all Johnny Cupcakes retail shops (Boston, Los Angeles, and London) and is available to fans around the world on the company’s website, www.johnnycupcakes.com, beginning May 31st 2014.
If you’re anything like me, you might be a bit lazy. And that’s fine. And if, like me, you also love putting on a mix you know you won’t want to skip over, press play above. I’m always saying I love music I can sort of zone out to. You know, work on something, cook, etc, and just jam all the while. This mix put out last month, called Bardot Sessions, is by Miami-based “turntable wizard” DJ YNOT. This dj has shared the stage with amazing artists from the Wu-Tang Clan to A-Trak and has been killing the party scene for over a decade. Not to mention he’s a super cool dude. This mix is really dope- there’ a little something special for everyone.
What’s even better, you can see DJ YNOT live alongside the legendary Maseo of De La Soul at this month’s installment of The Boom Bap! The party is held at Blackbird Ordinary, and is hosted by yours truly 2DB and Soarse Spoken. It’s FREE to get in and the drinks are on another level. Come out and hang with us for more dope music and great vibes. Check The Boom Bap’s Facebook page for updates and future events in Miami and abroad.
We’ll see you at The Boom Bap!

This Saturday, May 10th Ft. Lauderdale’s renowned Revolution Live will play host to Odd Future’s enigmatic Earl Sweatshirt for a live show that’s sure to be high energy, to say the least. Earl Sweatshirt will be joined by fellow Golf Wang-er Lucas Vercetti and anything is liable to happen when OFWGKTA is in the building. Judging by any time we’ve seen Earl Sweatshirt, whether performing or being hilarious on Loiter Squad, this is going to be well worth the trip. What’s even better? We’re giving away a pair of tickets to the show!
Taking his mini tour from South Carolina all the way down to Miami, we’re the last stop on his WEARLD TOUR. Don’t miss this final show! Enter to win a pair of tickets, courtesy of your favorite 2DB’s. Follow the simple rules below!
And that’s it! easy right? Good luck and make sure you follow the rules completely!
Last March, we were honored to throw an amazing event- TRAP PARADISE- at Miami’s famed Grand Central. The lineup was crazy- Mannie Fresh and Juvenile closed out the event which featured Heroes x Villains, DJ Speakerfoxxx, Brenmar and Miami Marci. If you were there, thank you! As part of our social media promotional storm, and to also promote The BOOM BAP, the monthly Hip-Hop party we host, we took a walk over to Paid In Full radio in Wynwood to spread the word and chop it up with the hosts.
Needless to say, the show’s resident DJ Ynot and host Soarse Spoken were spinning some of the best Hip Hop we’ve heard in a while. We talked about our upcoming event, mentioned a bit about how we started, our favorite artists and much more. Check out the recap of the show (below) to hear the entire playlist and our late-in-the-show conversation. You can’t blame us for being on Miami time! The show runs every Wednesday from 6-8 pm. Tune in!
Oh Miami, people complain about your bipolar weather but its just fine with me. Today’s warm and cloudy forecast is the perfect setting for my casual tank and skirt meets-of-the-moment mules. Oh you didn’t know? Mules are having a fashion moment right now. It’s so funny, before I spotted this pair a few years ago, I was really anti-mules. Even now, I have to force myself to wear them. It’s something about them, maybe the lack of a back (and fear I will fall out of them in the most public, embarrassing way.)
Anyways, since I work in a very ‘fashion’ setting (I’ve been using the word fashion this way lately, mainly as a joke) I decided to break my only mules out for a change. Outfit details are below. I’ve included a link to my glasses- my coworker recently told me an outfit of mine looked OK, but I should take my glasses off to, you know, look normal. She was amazed to learn I’m pretty much blind without them. Full disclosure: I do miss contacts.
Homes are an intimate space. Somewhere away from the World where you can let your hair down and detox from the busy routine of the daily hustle. So when Sonos and The Fader released “At Home With: A-Trak” I was curious to see what the turntabist World champion had in his living room. A surprisingly minimal space overlooking Manhattan from Brooklyn, his home is a musicians escape complete with his own studio. An inspiring look into the world of A-Trak – I can’t wait to re-decorate my home! Ugh, need to learn to get rid of things (junk) and become ‘minimalistic’ as well. Anyho, check out the video to get inspired PLUS Sonos rules and I need the system all through my home!
