For those of you who know me, you know I LOVE food- trying new dishes, cooking for hours to make a great dish for friends, etc. But one thing I especially love is getting served amazing food (who doesn’t right?) So, I was certainly happy to test out the newest Miami location of famed BBQ joint, Brother Jimmy’s. The new spot is located inside Sunset Place, address and info below. However,  I don’t eat any meat other than seafood. Since this is a BBQ restaurant, I took my boyfriend Jose along to sample the ribs. He has good taste, so he was the ideal candidate.

First we tried the popcorn shrimp. With this special, slightly spicy sauce, they were delicious. No complaints here. We only had a bit, though, to save room for the nachos. That’s right, nachos from a BBQ spot. The waitress warned us that they were huge, but it’s hard to even convey how big they were. We’re talking a huge pile of tortillas with melted cheese, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream, and bbq brisket. But the best part was that, instead of black or refried beans, these nachos had sweet BBQ beans. It was an unexpected twist and definitely worth the change. I only ate a little bit, since one of the owners was kind enough to let me know that the beans are cooked with pork. (He noticed we had the brisket on the side, and came over to ask if we were vegetarians. How’s that for customer service?)

Next up, Entreés. Jose had the full rack of ribs with cornbread and mac n cheese, while I ordered the tuna steak burger with a side of collard greens. Now, I have to say the collard greens didn’t quite stack up to my parents’, but hey, I grew up with two amazing cooks so I’m a bit biased. Everything else was great and seasoned just enough that we didn’t really need to reach for salt or pepper.  Last thing on the list: dessert. We decided to just share one since by now we were so full and ready for a nap. We ate a huge fudge brownie smothered in vanilla ice cream and whipped cream- nothing too adventurous here, but certainly delicious. I definitely will come back again. The ambiance and staff were so relaxed and friendly. Check out the images below for all the juicy details!

PS- The Peach Mojito is 100% worth trying.

Who doesn’t love the Simpsons? The classic TV family brings up memories of youth and rebellion with the wacky not so typical American-family. Lord knows I’ve watched about every episode pre-2007 (when I finished high-school!) but The Simpsons still keeps their charm even 25-years later. The longest-running scripted show in television history, The Simpsons exploded into a cultural phenomenon in 1990 and has remained one of the most groundbreaking and innovative entertainment franchises, recognizable throughout the world.

That’s why the marriage between The Simpsons and street-wear was a natural collaboration as The Simpsons has had their fair rounds with brands like Jeremy Scott, Shepard Fairey, Joyrich, A Bathing Ape, H&M, Topshop and Zara - even Jeremy Scott. This year The Simpson brand plans to collaborate with brands Drop Dead, Eleven Paris and Uniqlo.

Joining the ranks of the nostalgic collaborations, Johnny Cupcakes, the quirky fun apparel — largely focused on graphic tees that poke fun at pop culture with a culinary twist — still creates a buzz through word of mouth and general curiosity and this new project only adds to the brands art/cartoon direction.

The classic street wear apparel company promises to bring us three specially packaged, oversized “cupcake mix” boxes, each based on a fan-favorite character from The Simpsons. Each box contains three collectible products designed exclusively around the theme of the featured characters: Homer Simpson, Bart Simpson, and Krusty The Clown. These items will not be sold separately and are exclusive to the packages.

Find out more on www.johnnycupcakes.comThe Simpsons and Johnny Cupcakes collaboration apparel can be purchased in all Johnny Cupcakes retail shops (Boston, Los Angeles, and London) and is available to fans around the world on the company’s website,, beginning May 31st 2014.

If you’re anything like me, you might be a bit lazy. And that’s fine. And if, like me, you also love putting on a mix you know you won’t want to skip over, press play above. I’m always saying I love music I can sort of zone out to. You know, work on something, cook, etc, and just jam all the while. This mix put out last month, called Bardot Sessions, is by Miami-based “turntable wizard” DJ YNOT. This dj has shared the stage with amazing artists from the Wu-Tang Clan to A-Trak and has been killing the party scene for over a decade. Not to mention he’s a super cool dude. This mix is really dope- there’ a little something special for everyone.

What’s even better, you can see DJ YNOT live alongside the legendary Maseo of De La Soul at this month’s installment of The Boom Bap! The party is held at Blackbird Ordinary, and is hosted by yours truly 2DB and Soarse Spoken. It’s FREE to get in and the drinks are on another level. Come out and hang with us for more dope music and great vibes.  Check The Boom Bap’s Facebook page for updates and future events in Miami and abroad.

Last March, we were honored to throw an amazing event- TRAP PARADISE- at Miami’s famed Grand Central. The lineup was crazy- Mannie Fresh and Juvenile closed out the event which featured Heroes x Villains, DJ Speakerfoxxx, Brenmar and Miami Marci. If you were there, thank you! As part of our social media promotional storm, and to also promote The BOOM BAP, the monthly Hip-Hop party we host, we took a walk over to Paid In Full radio in Wynwood to spread the word and chop it up with the hosts.

2014-04-29 19.39.06

Needless to say, the show’s resident DJ Ynot and host Soarse Spoken were spinning some of the best Hip Hop we’ve heard in a while. We talked about our upcoming event,  mentioned a bit about how we started, our favorite artists and much more. Check out the recap of the show (below) to hear the entire playlist and our late-in-the-show conversation. You can’t blame us for being on Miami time! The show runs every Wednesday from 6-8 pm. Tune in!

Oh Miami, people complain about your bipolar weather but its just fine with me. Today’s warm and cloudy forecast is the perfect setting for my casual tank and skirt meets-of-the-moment mules. Oh you didn’t know? Mules are having a fashion moment right now. It’s so funny, before I spotted this pair a few years ago, I was really anti-mules. Even now, I have to force myself to wear them. It’s something about them, maybe the lack of a back (and fear I will fall out of them in the most public, embarrassing way.)

Anyways, since I work in a very ‘fashion’ setting (I’ve been using the word fashion this way lately, mainly as a joke) I decided to break my only mules out for a change. Outfit details are below. I’ve included a link to my glasses- my coworker recently told me an outfit of mine looked OK, but I should take my glasses off to, you know, look normal. She was amazed to learn I’m pretty much blind without them. Full disclosure: I do miss contacts.

Homes are an intimate space. Somewhere away from the World where you can let your hair down and detox from the busy routine of  the daily hustle. So when Sonos and The Fader released “At Home With: A-Trak” I was curious to see what the turntabist World champion had in his living room. A surprisingly minimal space overlooking Manhattan from Brooklyn, his home is a musicians escape complete with his own studio. An inspiring look into the world of A-Trak – I can’t wait to re-decorate my home! Ugh, need to learn to get rid of things (junk) and become ‘minimalistic’ as well. Anyho, check out the video to get inspired PLUS Sonos rules and I need the system all through my home! :D

Take a listen to A-Trak newly released Quack LP which features the best of Duck Sauce in the recent years. Press Play!

Aluna Francis wearing the Full Finger Ring , by ABA Jewels

I recently got the chance to hang out with Aluna of AlunaGeorge, the duo from England that I told you guys about a while back. She was in Miami on vacation and happened to walk past the Alessandra Gold Concept Store. The brilliant silver Kruzin sneakers  in the window caught her eye and she walked in. There she met the owner, Alessandra (designer of the sneakers) and they hit it off immediately.

Just strolling around Wynwood, the fortuitous meeting lead to an all out photo shoot, complete with a team of an amazing photographer, makeup artist, and of course all the items in Alessandra’s massive store. The best part? My ABA Jewelry was in the mix (check out the photos to see my Full Finger Ring!)

I have to say I was a little nervous to meet Aluna, mainly because I love her music so much and if she ended up being a jerk I would be forever conflicted while listening to her music. I’m happy to say that wasn’t the case- this woman is fun to be around, professional, and very down to earth- a normal, albeit very talented person. I had a really cool conversation with Aluna while she was getting her makeup done. When I inquired about her ethnic heritage (being a striking, brown English woman) she pretty much brushed off the question, which is understandable since she probably gets asked that all the time, but once we started talking about fashion, specifically jewelry, her face lit up. She is no stranger to the fashion scene- AlunaGeorge recently played the Rebecca Minkoff show at New York Fashion Week- but one thing she truly loves are rings. One of her fondest childhood memories is receiving a tiny gold pinky ring that she cherished deeply. Ever since, she’s had a strong affinity for rings and so I was honored that she loved mine so much.

Her tall, slim physique and gorgeous face were, I’m sure, easy to photograph, but I was actually shocked at how at home she seemed in front of the camera. As soon as the photographer was ready she hit pose after pose after pose and each one was on point (and it probably helped that MUA Crystal and photog Jimmy are amazing, too.) Check out the images below to see the amazing photos and some behind the scenes shots that I took.

Few clothing lines travel beyond the usual lines and safety of current trends. I first heard of Au Courant from from Miami-based DJ/Producer Miami Marci. The intriguing design of their “Samurai Tee” caught our eyes as it was something simple that had never been done before. It was a high-end cotton garment with capability for many uses.

Miami Marci rockin’ the Samurai Tee by Au Courant

Au Courant, the French word meaning “in the current,” is the independent namesake brand by Chaz A. Jordan. Dissatisfied by the commercial offerings of many labels, Au Courant was formed in 2011 as a personal artistic endeavor. Au Courant has quickly gained an international cult following amongst clients, buyers, celebrities and stylists alike from North America, Europe, and Asia.

Since the “Samurai Tee” release and the subsequent lack of new releases, I was disappointed to not see any future collections; until this week I scouted the internet to learn of the recent return of Au Courant and their alluring view on typical fashion “seasons” and “inspiration” -

Au Courant digresses from “fashion seasons” to the adaptation of an ongoing design approach—when inspiration strikes, inspiration is designed.

- touché

Combining high-quality materials with avant-garde designs and a touch of Far East sensibility, the brand brings the comfortably of Alexander Wang with the design and forwarding thinking of Rick Owens. Au Courant is the definition of quality over quantity.

Below are some of my picks for their newest collection titled, Drifter. inspired this time around by the Hughes Brother film, The Book of Eli (which is one of my top 5 movies). The clothing hinges on the journey “across the barren lands that remain” with distresses basics and nomad-like relaxing fits.

From the women selections, I am obsessed with their Basic T-Shirt with its thick neck collar as well as the Samuri skirt, a perfect interpretation of the male Samurai Tee. I could see this skirt used in so many ways.

As a proud pisces I tend to bounce from minor obsession to minor obsession (especially when it comes to “new artists” a.k.a. knew to me) and I believe I may have just stumbled on my next one. I was listening to an amazing mix by Esta for Karmaloop (another mini obsession well worth the click-through) and  Soundcloud played this gem next.

I had actually left the room by then and I ran back in time to see who I had been jamming to while doing my laundry. The song is by Jordan Rakei, an Australian based singer and musician who has a serenading, dreamy voice and apparently great taste in D’Angelo songs. I love how “Blackbird” has bits of the 90′s crooner’s “Lady” thrown into a dubbed-out reggae vibe AND melds that all with a kind of almost Sinatra-esque lounge feel. Trust me, I played this song on repeat a few times and am still jamming to it. Listen to a few of his songs and you’ll see what I mean.

If you liked “Blackbird”, check out “All For Something,” below,  which is actually produced by Esta. I’m really into the vibe of Jordan’s music- it’s smooth, highly instrumental, full of emotion, perfect for Sunday mornings and lazy, rainy afternoons.

Head over to Jordan’s SoundCloud and see why I can’t get enough.

Support this talented musician by purchasing his album Franklin’s Room, here! (My favorite track is Selfish.)
