ODE TO THE TERIYAKI BOYZ

Teriyaki Boyz. The Japanese Hip-Hop rap group comprises of Ilmari, Ryo-Z, Verbal, Wise and Nigo. Nigo? Yes, CEO and founder of BAPE.

Getting their start in 2005, the Teriyaki boyz are signed under Nigo’s record label BAPE SOUNDS and have released three studio albums as well as worked with such producers such as Just Blaze, Daft Punk, Marc Ronson, DJ Premiere, and of course The Neptunes. As well as doing constant clothing collaborations with BAPE – the boys have achieved a tremendous amount of success and have had their own continuous solo projects even in their hiatus.

As you should know the groups member VERBAL is 1/2 of AMBUSH DESIGNS, the jewelry and accessories powerhouse along with his wife YOON. Also hes embarked on his solo career and just recently released his album VISION AIR.

First heard the group in 2006 with their American hit “Tokyo Drift” from the Fast & Furious soundtrack. It was on everyone’s I Pod. As my interest in street wear grew, the guys affiliation with BAPE and the fashion world made me more interested in each of the guys and their sound. I love all things Japanese and this band is no exception.

Watch the TERIYAKI BOYZ below, including a classic performance with OLD Kanye (Louie Vuitton Don era). Get ready for some ‘Serious Japanese’.
