My 10 Questions While Watching Tupac’s Coachella Performance

So this past Sunday, Tupac Amaru Shakur made an appearance during the over an hour-long set of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg‘s amazing Coachella performance. While performing “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted“, I couldn’t help but start to wonder and question what I was actually watching.

The holographic or more adequately called “2-D” image (Hologram is 3-D and the incorrect term because the image was actually made by projecting an image on a mirrored surface) I started to do research on the actual technology and brains behind the performance but not before I watched the video over and over again and asked myself a few candid questions.

1. Does the performance really have to start with some kind of creepy, dramatic, church-like music?

2. Whats going on though the minds of Snoop and Dr. Dre? Arent they creeped out just a bit?

3. Where or how did they come up with his voice for the intro? The rest sounds just like the actual song audio.

4. Who do you think they used as a model for the Tupac figure? In the scuba suit for the digital imaging?

5. Tupac looks BUILT AS FUCK, was he keeping up his weekly fitness regime in Heaven?

6. Could he have grabbed his crotch just a little bit more?

7. How did they even get the jean wrinkles natural movement?!

8. WHY DID IT END SO SUDDENLY?

9. Couldnt we get a good-bye? Thanks for coming? See y’all on the flipside? Something…

10. Why am I tearing up?

Turns out the brains behind this impressive and shocking display is Digital Domain Media Group - the same company that worked on the imaging for such movies as Tron, X-MenI, Robot, The Day After Tomorrow, Transformers, Benjamin Button, and the list goes on. Its amazing the work they have done and the human-like quality which went into the design and movement of these projections. They’ve even done a Jordan Gatorade commercial. What else can they conquer? Just recently the Wall Street Journal conducted a phone interview with the chief creative officer of the Digital Domain Media Group. Check out the article its pretty interesting. Dont want to give all the details away, I actually want you to read it!

Also here’s an additional goody for anyone else who’s interested, like I was, in what other projects this company has worked on. Check out their impressive work below.
