Your favorite 2dopebitches recently caught up with the Detroit native Guilty Simpson to see what’s up with him and his current / future projects and to give you guys a little more insight into who he is before his performance at EVE this April 15th in downtown Miami.
The event is going to be really dope, with artists both local to Miami and world-traveled veterans in the game !
2Ddopebitches X Guilty Simpson
2DB- What can we expect from your album (along with Sean price and Black Milk) “ Random Axe” on June 14th?Guilty: Raw lyrics with street appeal. Basically its me,Sean Price, and BlackMilk spitting savage rhymes over BlackMilks production. Its not anything we over-thought it’s was it’s supposed to be.
2DB-Besides the “ Random Axe” project, what does the future hold for Guilty Simpson?
Guilty: I have a solo project with Stonesthrow, and a few 1 producer projects that im working on. I’m sure another OJ/Simpson project will happen too. I stay busy, I wont rest until I’m done with it.
2DB- How did random axe come about?
Guilty: My manager Hex suggested we do a song together, I already knew about Sean Price so I was down with it.
When Sean Price, who didn’t know of me at the time, did his research he suggested we make it an album. The rest is history, We’ve been good money ever since.2DB-We’ re sure everyone asks you questions about Dilla but what was your most memorable moment
working with him?Guilty: Every time I was in the lab with him. It was refreshing to see somebody that accomplished still LOVE the music so much.
When I’d record my vocals he was eager to mix what I did. He really did love music and the whole creative process.2DB-You have worked with some legendary, classic producers -what producer would like to work with that you haven’ t?
Guilty: Well I have worked with them already, but Pete Rock and Alchemist are 2 no doubt. I worked with Alchemist on “Brass Knuckle Rap”, and Pete produced a song I did mfs never heard b4 called ” Not Forgotten”.
Those 2, Preemo, Organized Noize, Large Pro, etc. I could name names all day!!2DB-“You can catch Guilty Simpson at a rave with babes, packin a .38 snub and a razorblade” – care to explain that line?
Guilty: In Detroit this local radio station 88.1, used to have Rave style parties in Highland Park. We used to go there to smoke weed, hustle, and fuck with chicks.
Anybody that knew me back then knew I/we kept protection . 38 for long range, razor blade for the more personal greeting haha!
My whole verse on “Baby” was a reflection of that time period and setting….
DOPE! We can’t wait for the show…
