It’s 2007 and after a great few years of intense admiration for groups such as The Diplomats, G-Unit, and Cash Money the ideology of Hip-Hop super groups has started to subside. Apart from my growth away from the adolescence admiration of rappers (today its Odd Future, Based God, and G.O.O.D. Music, my how times change!) I now look back at my old favorite artists with loyalty and pride, their music has an impact on my growth process, even if it was embarrassing.
Out of all the 50 Cents, Jay-Z, and Lil Wayne’s of this time in Hip-Hop we can never forget the movement that rapper Cam’ron ushered in with the introduction of The Diplomats, also known as Dipset. Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, Freeky Zeekey, Jah Jah, and J.R. Writer were the stars of the movement. With pink tall tees and bandannas falling from every inch of their bodies; Cam’ron’s Dipset was the visual equivalent of 2000′s SWAG.
With that said, say what you will about Cam’ron’s rapping ability, but the man is a marketing genius. Releasing his first album in 1998, his single featuring his childhood friend Mase “Horse and Carriage” reached the Top Ten on the Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B charts. Now in 2012, he’s eight studio albums in and still going strong. I will never forget the color pink movement, the amount of New York obsessed Dipset boys in High School, nor the ridiculous attitude Cam’ron brought to rap.
And that s where the videos where Cam’ron and this’ isolated world of rap’ verging with mainstream media make viral magic in my eyes. The first video is Cam’ron and then CEO of Rocafella records Damon Dash going head to head with Bill O’Reilly. Bill O’Reilly has always been the man to cause controversial headlines for his outrageous opinions and commentary but with him in the room with an unpredictable Cam’ron- he’s just asking to get made fun of. The rest is history. THESE VIDEOS ARE A NEED TO WATCH BASIS.
The second video is more serious. As the Hip-Hop world is constantly evolving and pushing out different types of attitudes though the years, the certain question of one view was questioned by NBC News. As they call it the “Stop Snitching Campaign.” I have to admit I played into this campaign purchasing a shirt with the familiar phrase and wearing it with pride. But its message is more serious when it comes to the issue of crimes and murders not being solved due to the phrase and its ideals which stretch out to ghettos and communities around the country. With “no snitching” no ones serves their justice and dangerous criminals are out on the streets. More importantly loved ones never come to peace after a crime has been committed.
Cam’ron gives his classic reaction to Anderson Cooper’s interview questions which gives inside into the mind of ghetto street ethics in America but even then his witty in-your-face answers are literally to die for. PLEASE watch below.

Yeah, your probably over it by now. But if there’s one thing about viral videos that stays the same is – there will always be parodies and different versions of the same iconic video to keep us busy for weeks after.
If your totally lost, recently there has been a viral video craze that has taken over the internet lately involving videos of people mocking what different types of social/ethnic/gender groups are most likely to say in different social situations. Make sense? Just keep reading.
It all started with “Shit Girls Say” – a YouTube viral video that is so ironically accurate event I’m embarrassed. Hilarious but dead on quotes are uttered by a man in women’s wig. With to date totalling over 12 million views, this video sparked many copy cats and variations. Now with a healthy amount of “Shit ____ Girls/Boys Say” videos sprawling the internet its hard not to find one that you can relate and in turn burst into laughter while watching.
Below are some of my favorites and in particular the most recent one to pop up is “Shit Miami Girls/Guys Say“. Its pretty dead on and I kinda feel silly that I even say a few of these lines. I guess that’s the point but either way the others are pretty enjoyable as well (Shit White Girls Say … to Black Girls caught me with a few as well – sorry Aja! LOL )
Enjoy!!
NORE and Pharrell‘s video for “Like the Way” is a fun homage to the dope summer pool parties that have to go down at someone’s rich friend’s house as much as possible during the nice weather months (unless you live in lovely Miami or any other warm climate). The beat is sick and undeniably a product of the N.E.R.D. front man. I like the play on the white kids being scared of this mysterious black man rolling up on them and ultimately just raging out “white boy style” Good times.

I love Childish Gambino. I do. His lyrics are hilarious at times like Das Racist yet can be as complex as any verse spit by Kanye West or Lil Wayne and with just as much conviction. He often raps over indie rock such as his song “Bitch, Look at Me Now” set to Grizzly Bear’s “2 Weeks.” The mix is pure genius.
Childish Gambino is the rap moniker of comedian and writer Donald Glover, the cute guy who hosted this year’s MTV U Woodie Awards. He is hilarious when he does stand up and also when he acts as Troy Barnes on the NBC comedy series Community.
He has a pretty cool website- iamdonald.com- with tour dates, blog/personal pics and hot chicks. Who wouldn’t love that? Check it out.
His video for the song “Freaks and Geeks” is great because it starts off shooting him from far away in an empty wharehouse, slowly panning in to see his expressions as he jumps around and kills the song. It ends with his face completely taking up the screen as he delivers the illest bars of the whole song (in my opinion).
Hey guys, are you looking for something to do Tuesday night that’s a bit more “out of the box” ? If you are, 2DB has just the thing- Casa De Ha-Ha at Sweat Records is going down tomorrow, April 12 from 8:30 to 11 pm. It should be a great show, hosted by Daniel Reskin, with the hilarious Larry Harris Jr. performing alongside Lisa Corrao, Forrest Shaw, Alex Morizio, Tommy Lee, and Tim Hanlon. And best of all? It’s local and FREE !
The Beastie Boys are back in full effect- their new album, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, is set for release May 3rd! I don’t know aout you guys but I’m excited. If you are too,
And while you wait patiently for your mail, watch this HILARIOUS AND INGENIOUS video clip of the “real” Beastie Boys duking it out with their future selves. i’m not even going to name all the celebrity cameos- you tell me who you see! This is priceless. Needs more cowbell.

If I didn’t know better, I might have died and landed in heaven – whew.
Today is the birthday of Pharrell Williams – performer, producer, designer, artist, and all around fine man.

He turns 38 today but by his looks and lifestyle you would have never guessed it. Us girls over here at 2DB wanna give the N.E.R.D. front many and Virgina-native a big ol’ birthday cyber kiss and hug for his bornday.

Enjoy some great Pharrell videos. He is truly amazing and gifted man!
Here is the next track off of The Lonely Island‘s new album, Turtleneck and Chain, being unleashed to the public May 10th. The Song is called “We’re Back” and features the guys , uh, bragging about their special parts and musical talents. The other tracks off the album so far are “I Just Had Sex” with Akon and “The Creep” with Nicki Minaj. I’m personally psyched for the next album. Incredibad (the first album) was so hilarious to me I know the next won’t disappoint. Enjoy the video below!
“We started this fake rap sh*t. The world needs us!” Yes.
