The Super Bowl half time show seems to be a momentous occasion for our American culture. Performances are water-cooler conversation for weeks as we overlook the impact and references to our own Western culture which is prevalent in every performance through out the years. From Janet Jackson’s “Nip Slip” to Bono and Prince‘s “Purple Rain” – this years performer Madonna was their best yet.

Starting out with her classic “Vogue” track, we were all reminded why Madonna is still on top 20 years later. The iconic pop singer, now 53, gallops across the field and then the stage effortlessly striking poses and doing cartwheels sporting an imperial headdress and Romanesque fashion clothing. To be exact, Givenchy Couture threads, Miu Miu boots and Bulgari jewels and the headpieces M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj rocked were designed by Erickson Beamon. I even spot some Jeremy Scott on the dancers!

Next was the “Hey Mr. DJ” track which is a dope track as well… but im not feeling the introduction of LMAFO into the performance. You see them DJing on ONE turntable and then they join Madonna to “Shuffle”. Something about LMAFO just repulses me. I am disgusted by them. Anyways.

Then the performance shifts to Madonnas newest track off he upcoming album MDNA, called “Give Me All Your Luvin” which features Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.. The performance was dope as the girls sported pom pom’s and fly girl cheerleaders accompanied them on stage . In true M.I.A. “I don’t give a shit” fashion, Maya starts to rap her feature …. ending with a big middle finger to the crowd. Who gives a shit? This particular part of the performance is getting huge media attention. Steaming from the infamous “Nip Slip”, I can understand the “outrage” to an extent but come on relax, it’s a finger not a nipple.

Then Cee-Lo Green enters the picture almost without notice bringing on stage a college band to start his performance with Madonna, singing a short snippet of “Express Yourself”. Then comes the big ending - ”Just Like a Prayer”. I love this track. Enter a huge church choir to add to the performance, its Super Bowl history! Then it all ends, with Madonna disappearing in a cloud of smoke.

Memorable. Classic. American . and oh so good.

Watch it yourself below. What do you think?

nas

Took him long enough.

According to the Associated Press, Nas is going to release a memoir sometime in 2012. There are not too many details being offered up right now other than that it will be co-written by Touré.

I’d like to get comfy with this book and read about all the ups and downs Nasir went through without the public knowing. I wonder if he will touch the whole Illuminati thing. Here’s hoping.

It’s hilarious how they put in the phonetic spelling of Nas’s name (I thought it was easy enough.)

ABC-

Nas (nahz) is taking his war of words to the printed page.

The rapper is known for his million-selling album “Illmatic” and his public feuds with Jay-Z and Bill O’Reilly. Now he has a memoir coming out in the fall of 2012.

Simon & Schuster imprint Atria Books announced Monday the memoir will be called “It Ain’t Too Hard to Tell” and will be co-written with music journalist and TV personality Toure (TOO’-ray).

Nas’ other records include “It Was Written” and “Life is Good.”

“Nas’s other records..” Ha! Oh, corporate America. You know nothing of my beloved Nas…

Here is the new video from Rihanna- Cheers (Drink To That) shows a candid, more personal side of the performer we don’t often see. On and off of work (which I assume isn’t very much of the time), Rihanna seems like she just enjoys what she’s doing.

Rihanna holds a special place in my heart as far as celebrities go. She’s wild and seems very opinionated- doing what she loves, wearing what she wants, and living her life to the fullest, just like the girls women I envision would wear the shoes I design. Honestly, if I could get Rihanna to wear my shoes just once I’d be ecstatic.

aaliyah

Wow. Ten years. The death of anybody celebrity or not is tragic. The death of this artist marked in a time in my youth where I was in middle school and just discovering new friends along with myself. Ten years ago ? Man , does that mean I’m getting old because I distinctly remember the career and death of Aaliyah.

We all should know the story. Ten years ago on this day , Aaliyah Danan Haughton was one of nine people aboard a twin-engine plane that crashed seconds after taking off from the Bahamas . All nine died. This occurred right after shooting that video for her newest single “Rock the Boat” off her last self-titled album. The plane was bound for Opa-Locka Airport in Miami, Florida and the crew included her makeup artist and a virgin executive. The investigations of the plane crash that followed her death found many causes for the possible tragic event such as fault from a pilot with a criminal history of possession of cocaine , they investigators also suspected that the plane was overloaded which made it harder to handle in fight and so on. Either way , we are only left with memories of Aaliyah and what she contributed to the world of R&B in her life and now in her death.

Of course you know I’m going to drop some of my favorite Aaliyah jams for this special day. Enjoy.

Check out the original report from MTV reporting the crash back in 2001.

Also check out this letter Drake wrote to Aaliyah on her birthday last year. How sweet.

All day, like ALL DAY on Twitter people ahve been talking about how Lil Wayne dissed Jay-Z and even Beyonce. Some people say Jay-Z is overrated. Some people say Lil Wayne is sensitive about nothing and basically just shot himself in the foot. I mean, I did a bit of research andthe thing that got Lil Wayne’s grill all twisted doesn’t even seem like it’s about him.

Weezy got mad at Jay-Z for saying

“Really you got baby money
Keep it real with niggas,
niggas ain’t got my lady money.”

That bar is on the song H.A.M. off of Kanye and Jay-Z’s album “Watch The Throne” and first of all there’s no real proof that that’s about him. Secondly, I don’t think Jay-Z cares about many rapper’s money status considering he’s on the Forbes List.

This being said, Weezy shot back at Jay on his song “It’s Good” featuring Jadakiss and Drake.

He said this:

“Talk about baby money, I got your baby money.
Kidnap your bitch get that that how much you love your lady money
I know you fake nigga, press your brakes nigga.
I’ll take you out, that’s a date nigga.
I’m a grown ass blood, stop playing with me.”

Now, with all this going on, what are the effects? HMM?? Let’s see- people are Googling Jay-Z, Googling Lil Wayne, Listening to Wayne’s new song, re-listening to H.A.M., probably some people are buying these songs and some albums, people are Tweeting about these guys, and MONEY IS BEING MADE HERE PEOPLE. I think this is all just a publicity stunt for more income. These people are businessmen let’s not forget. Just my opinion.. want proof? Look what Lil Weezy said in his interview with MTV’S Sway when he got out of prison.

The video for “Otis”, the single off of the highly blogged about album from Jay-Z and Kanye West, Watch The Throne, is bad ass. I love it. And as I said before, I’m my nose isnt open over this song like it seems everyone else’s is.. But the video? Chopping up a Maybach to use as a play thing? Aziz Ansari? Spike Jonze directing? Do I even need to go on?? Watch the video and judge for yourself if you haven’t seen it already!

*With all the mixed reviews about the album and how it basically just pushes Ye and Jay’s wealth and opulence into our lowly faces, it’s nice to have a fun and chilled out video that many people say reminds them of how older rap videos were: fun, relaxed and raw (think of Jay-Z on a boat poppin’ bottles circa 1996)

qream front

As we mentioned previously, Skateboard P , Pharrell (@4real4rell) has recently launched a delicious and creamy liquor, aptly named Qream. The drink is marketed directly to the sexy ladies who will surely be ordering this at clubs all over now. His thrid launch party for this new business endeavor has hosted by Miami’s top nightclub, LIV, which is inside of the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach. The venue was decked out with beautiful flowers, bottles of complementary Qream in buckets of ice set at tables all over, and don’t forget about the women walking around with trays of amazing treats- chocolate covered cheesecake and pistachio macaroons?!  Awesome.

Your favorite 2 dope bitches were in attendance at the invite only affair, along with Trina, Fat Joe (who’s not so fat anymore) and Q-Tip- you know we wouldn’t miss a party like that!

The days of classic television in the 30′s brought upon an age of timeless scarlets. If you have ever watched TV after 11 PM (Nick at Nite?) you know what “I Love Lucy” is. “I Love Lucy” featured one of the most successful women comedians to date – Lucille Ball. Her timeless red hair and personality helped her skyrocket the Lucy franchise to make millions.

Lucille Désirée Ball (August 6, 1911 – April 26, 1989) was an American comedian, film, television, stage and radio actress, model, film and television executive, and star of the sitcoms I Love Lucy, The Lucy–Desi Comedy Hour, The Lucy Show, Here’s Lucy and Life With Lucy

“I Love Lucy” starred Lucille and her then real life husband Desi Arnaz as Ricky Ricardo. the two made television history even if their marriage didn’t last. To this day , “I Love Lucy” has never been taken off air and stands as the longest running show in history.

Todays her 100th birthday and even Google.com celebrated with an interactive Lucy vintage television which plays clips from the series. She died in 1989 and left a legacy that many people enjoy till this day and remember as “I Love Lucy”.

Watch a classic Lucy scene below , as well as a report of her death from 1989.
